Day 49 – Saturday Beijing Day 1

Day 49 – Saturday

Beijing Day 1

We settle in for lunch upon reaching and also after some delays due to the lack of space for all of our super big luggage. Dishes here as compared to Dalian were very different, and I find that Dalian’s version are way more tasty (for the very first lunch though). After lunch, we headed for 紫禁城Forbidden City, which is the palace of the Qing Dynasty Emperors, inside of the place was massive and we walked quite a bit. But it was rather a tiring day for all of us, I was almost falling asleep very soon. After a long walk, we finally reached the天安门, where it has the famous Chairman Mao's portrait. And Finally it back to the hotel and unpacked and wash up.

Day 48 – Friday

Day 48 – Friday

The final day in Dalian, most people went over to chill again, however the kbox till dawn was simply telling my body to rest well at the hostel, and get the stuff all well-packed and ready for Beijing! Some went over to Zoo, some went for more shopping, where my day was simply staying in the hostel to get everything well-packed, prepare my gift for my dearest buddy (Wu Yan), though its only been a short 1 mth and two weeks here in Dalian, however she was a really nice and friendly person, nice meeting her and thankful as well. =D. Had my very last FRIED RICE meal in Dalian for my lunch (And yes though its oily and stuff but to me, it’s simply the most delicious fried rice that I have ever tasted).

Went over to get wrapping paper, lunch with Amanda. Had lunch and nap ( yet again, cause its quite tiring as well). During the evening time, I finally finish writing my thank-you greeting letter for Wu Yan and finish wrapping my gift for her. I hoped she will like it. Woo.

It felt quite saddening and stuff, cause everybody was like spending their final moments with their buddies, whereas for me, Hostel-alone trying to wait for the time to be able to meet her. As the whole day she has some school activities where she wouldn’t be in school and their hostel has a strict rule of having to return by 1040pm (if I remember), I received her call and headed straight to meet her, I seriously deep-down inside was filled with some much emotions, words can’t explain, nervous was one of it and very much anticipating was very much of it.

I only get to meet her for a very short 3 minutes because her hostel’s gate has to be closed (she only return back to the hostel like minutes before), it was a very strict rule so she has no choice but to go. The 3 minutes was precious to me, handed her my gift, chatted and wished each other well. A very touching event happened. She actually has a gift for me, however due to the lack of time; she couldn’t go up and get the gift so she simply gave me her necklace that she was wearing, very unexpected but so lovely and much of touching as well. Well-loved. =D and yea I almost cried or something ha. I appreciate every single stuff that she has done. SMS that was going on, during the week one to see if everything is alright for me and stuff and so much more too.

My gift for Wu Yan.

Day 47 – Thursday

Day 47 – Thursday

Today was the last second day in Dalian, everyone went out of the hostel to chill a little, My group of friends and I went over to Shen Li for the final shopping and stuff, before that went over to the bookstore( which i have been so looking forward ever since the first week in Dalian), because I was looking for some Chinese books which might not be available in Singapore. Bought on book though. After some shopping, some friends went over to find their buddies ( Dalian student guidance) for the final meet up dinner and stuff. Some headed over for dinner and later we headed to K-Box ( another some look forward activities) My buddy Wu Yan and I have been talking about heading over to K-Box and stuff, however there’s wasn’t that chance and today she wasn’t able to make it as she have school the next day. The timing for the singing was from 12am all the way till morning 6am. And its been so long since I Sang, nice event to end off my final days in Dalian. => Took Taxi home and shower and fell asleep all the way.

Day 45 – Tuesday

Day 45 – Tuesday

Critique/Presentation day

In the morning, I woke up to get a quick writing for my scripts and rehearse a little. Today is the critique day. It shall end the weekly presentation as being the final presentation for this project. I guess everyone would feel very much relieved after the long hours of doing work ( the final run) ever since Thursday. The four days has been intense and quite mentally as well as physically tiring. However after the presentation and everything. Everyone gets their fair share of having to have a good meal and a good rest. During the four days, we seem as though we are soldier trying to fight that final war, having not enough sleep(trying to complete everything in time) and eating mainly junk food and all (Maggie, titbits and fried rice), the intense life seems really quick to pass by. Final its the presentation. After the preparation of the writing down of the scripts and rehearing, everything seems pretty well-prepared, but deep down in the heart, the emotions and everything is still a little nervous, intense and uncertain but however we are able to pull it through until the last bit of the presentation. Chew Yin and I presented first right after lunch time. Everything went alright, however there were some comments that we should kept in mind, and edit them when we returned back to Singapore for the final printing for the panels and construction drawings. Some stuff includes the material study of the waste-paper table, if inside should be hollow and made up of frame and support ( because it will be super heavy if everything is purely paper) and more. Comments are noted and kept in the mind.

After all the presentation by all the students, we headed over back to the hostel and prepared for the show being showcase by the DPU for the international students. It includes performances both from the DXPD and the CLS students, DID however didn’t have a performance as we are the “busy” people ( due to submission though). Its showcases great performance which were able to lighten up our intense emotions , there were magic shows, wu shu , instrumental, drama, singing and dancing. And great night to sum up the almost ending days in Dalian.

Day 44-Monday

Day 44-Monday

Submission Day.

Today will ends the projecting day for now before the crit day which is tomorrow. After days of sleepless night, eating a lot of junk food and the thought of wanting to get everything done and about is finally going to end. It always feels this way for any of the other projecting period. Maybe it’s because the time just flies like nobody’s business. The official day for submission, after that intense emotive feeling of the 4 days straight of living indoor (mostly) and not seeing much of the outside world. In the morning, we went over to Anglia’s room for a little while, however it seems that the white, clean and fresh bed sheet and the bed itself seems to be calling us to sleep on it, and no doubt as everyone is just so tired, CY and I was just simply wanted to lie down for a while, however we slept all the way from 6am – 8am, where our panels have yet to be done. The moment we woke up, we were like shocked ( haha because we didn’t expect ourselves to actually sleep without having the work done and about). Started working all the way till 530pm where submission is finally over. Woo. Headed over with the mates to have a proper dinner. Where we shall have not much though on if we have finish certain things for the project. However after dinner, it some resting time and I should be working on my scripts and stuff, however my tiring body just felt that weak that I only wrote a little sentences, and fell to sleep, with my laptop right beside my pillow.

Day 43- Sunday

Day 43- Sunday

Today is the last second day before the real submission on Monday’s afternoon at 5-6pm. When days are getting there, it is when the body starts to tell one to stop for a while because it is going to break down soon or something. Where meals has become random, when the bed has been seldom touched, where the eyes only sees the screen of a laptop almost 24/7, where even in the dreams its all about CAD drawing, renderings and panels, where these are the days, students gets the fullest attention to get everything out and about.

The second floor’s corridor has new visitors from people from the sixth floor (the guys) and some ladies as well. They worked these days along the corridor, sitting down on the carpet flooring and doing work on the cushion-seat, sometimes I wondered, wouldn’t it be tiring and stuff to have such sitting postures for a straight 4 days? But well in a way it keeps everyone going, as in working together gets everyone in the mood and stuff to get stuff done. But if it was me, I’ll still so much prefer sitting in the right postures to get my work done. Somewhere comfortable and stuff.

Our project’s panorama has some problem, it wouldn’t save properly. However it is able to create this interesting outlook of the space, a more curve-like one though, so much different from our final design, the funny thing is, it was because Cy’s QuickTime was a so much older version, it thus wouldn’t be able to have the real panorama version for the submission. However it worked out well after the latest version has been uploaded and stuff.

Day 42 - Saturday

Day 42 – Saturday

Projecting continues. Today as usual work has to be continued till the last moment of the life-span ( so-called). Tomorrow will be Jonathan’s birthday, thus my friends suggested on getting paints and papers to give him a surprise gift. The paints generally gets on the mirror, featuring a huge greetings from all of us, quite cool, luckily the hostel’s worker didn’t came knocking on his door or something. ( laughs). Later during evening time, we went off to the nearby market (the usual after-school hang out place) where we have gotten balloon, cake and some stuff to give him a surprise birthday greeting when the clock strikes 12AM! in the morning, which is officially 31may2009 ( his 19th). Almost everyone ( as in the DID students) headed over to his room to give me a surprise woo. Nice. After everything was done, it was back to the room for working again.
